Background

The applications you will find here as and when they are released emanate from tools initially borne out of necessity. Originally created to fulfil the requirements of clients who for a variety of reasons were unable to utilise the more conventional methods normally associated with computer forensics.

Where, for example the initial seizure of potential evidence or the attendance of an analyst was likely to be counterproductive and where the only viable solution was to provide the client with a bespoke tool they could use themselves to either get a copy of data for subsequent analysis or undertake a triage of ‘live’ data in a non-invasive manner, with a view to establishing the likelihood of relevant evidence existing.

Computer Forensics
Types of user

If you are the parent or guardian of a child or teenager who you suspect may be the victim of crime taking their computer away for someone else to have a look is not likely to go down well. Potentiality causing more harm than good.  Similarly, you could be a lawyer, investigator, employer or system administrator who needs answers to either protect assets or an individual. Where again, the circumstances are such that the seizure of computers or access to them by others will either arouse suspicion, cause ill-will, put others in danger or just be impractical. These tools as they become available may be able to help in certain circumstances.

Please Note:

At present these tools do not work on mobile phones or other smart devices, although they will work on any removable storage media, including any flash cards they may contain.

Our first offering | Assure - forensic data Imaging

Evitrack Assure

An automated low cost computer forensic digital imaging application that guides a user through both the process and options available when looking to obtain forensically sound copies of digital media for analysis.

By following a few simple steps this tool can be used by novices and experts alike.

EviTrack Assure has been designed to comply with ACPO guidelines. Meaning that, any evidence adduced from date acquired using Assure would be admissible in a court of law should the need arise.
If you are looking for a little light reading the official version of ACPO guidelines in relation to computer based evidence can be found at Forensics (college.police.uk)

Getting Evidence

One of the first steps in any digital investigation should be to try and get an evidentially accepatable copy the data from which it is thought that evidence material to an investigation may be found. From that point on, the copy can be examined any number of times looking for information which may be of relevance.

Obtaining a forensically sound copy of that data is essential if the possibility of legal proceedings exists. And that’s exactly what EviTrack Assure does.

Secure full disk encryption

The developers of EviTrack Assure, appreciate that their forensic software will not work in every scenario. They also appreciate that where evidence already exists and likelihood of a criminal prosecution is strong, then best evidence may dictate that an original exhibit be seized prior to analysis.

However, this is not always the case. In such circumstances it may be possible to utilise EviTrack Assure provided those tasked with acquiring the data follow a few simple steps. Assuming these steps are followed, there is no reason why evidence adduced using Assure should not be admissible in a court of law or other tribunal.
